NUEN PROJECT

IT’S NUEN TEAM!

 
 

THE PROJECT
The Raga remote city was one of our first internal projects of Nuen Studio to prove our capability of handling a small scale project with a realistic scope of deliverables and the given timeline was one month.

THE BRIEF

Design an environment from scratch, including the architecture and the surrounding landscape, which is a remote city set in an alien planet/location.

THE PROCESS

We get started with collecting references and doing a bunch of exploration sketches to find a solid direction for the architecture to move forward with, using different techniques. Halfway through the process of defining the architectural style, we had another concept artist joining in to sketch out the landscape, with the intention to give enough contrast to promoting the main city structures.

 

 
 

On the second week, we found a potential style that fitted the art director’s vision and moved on to define it further in 3D. We carefully blocked the main shapes/forms and developed the core structure/hero building. By modeling and kitbashing our own models, we were able to explore a few more potential options.

 
 
 

With the best option picked and approved, we worked together to flesh out the main elements/areas of the hero building in 3D, by exploring and narrowing down the possible options further.

The design of the rocks, on which the city had been built, was also taken care of. We were trying to find some unique designs using nature references of weird rocks and minerals.

 

 
 

A bunch of smaller structures was developed along the lines, giving us a lot more elements to enrich the final architectural design, see below for the final layout and lighting setup.

Finished sketches using the provided city layout and applying the rock designs we made in 3D into a suitable environment and mood. Below is the final key art showing the city in the surrounding environment and the aerial view of the entire city.

On the last week of the project, we were fully focusing on producing the final detailed call-out as well as working on the interior for the main tower of the hero building.
